WELCOME! This is a blog about masturbation, me being male, it will probably be more about male masturbation than female. And even more specifically this is about the “ethics” or theological perspective of masturbation. This topic has become of interest to me specifically because I grew up in a family where masturbation was considered normal and healthy and even necessary. It’s not something everybody did in the open, but if and when it was done, it was done in private, albeit nobody talked about it. In essence, it was not considered a sin (my dad was/is a Christian pastor) but at the same time it was not something you talked about; albeit at the same time we were taught also not to be hypocritical about it (ie to act macho and pretend that you have never masturbated and try to make others a scape goat of sorts, as some others in did, and still do to this day; in some communities it becomes a “witch hunt” of sorts, whereby those who do but say they don’t need to try to find somebody to take the light off of themselves) . We were taught that if we did masturbate it’s not something you talk about but also not something to be ashamed of ; and if you did not masturbate it is also something you do not talk about, let alone boast about. Therefore, to this day, I have NO IDEA if anybody else in my family ever masturbated or not. That was the code of our family. And I think it is a good code.
However, later in life I experienced the “witch hunt” in my small Christian church community with certain persons playing “macho man” and accusing others of being masturbators. These persons did not know the “code” of our community even though they were sort of part of our community. I suspect they were the ones trying to find scapegoats for their own insecurities or perceived inadequacies. And to this day they still play the masturbation witch hunt game and have ruined what was for many y ears a a good, non-hypocritical Christian community.
And so it hasn’t gone away and therefore still bothers me thirty-plus years later, and I decided to create a blog devoted to it, in order to get things off of my mind, so to speak. I will leave it at that to begin with but stay tuned for more posts.
Truly Yours
